By way of introduction, I am in practice as a pastoral counselor at Grace River Christian Counseling. Previously, I served for 14 years on the staff of Journey Church in Norman where my primary role was oversight of pastoral counseling and family care for a large congregation. My earlier career spanned 30 years in management, training, recruiting, employee relations, and a military enlistment.
In many ways, what I do as a pastoral counselor is a natural progression of how I have approached previous professional roles. The running theme of 45-years on the job has been my bent to help people achieve their full potential in life, relationships, and work. Along the way, I have learned that traumatic experiences, roadblocks, and conflict are part of everyone’s story but need not define the person, their relationships, or their future. Additionally, whether we admit it or not, every one us comes with a built in need to be known and understood. I am certain, I can better serve my client by taking the time to get to know them; the whole story, not just the problem.
During my years in ministry, I discovered God’s willingness, if asked, to provide wisdom and direction during counseling. I believe prayer and references to scripture, where applicable, are powerful tools for healing. I will respect your position and meet you wherever you are on your spiritual journey.
Therefore, at the client’s request, these practices can be excluded from counseling sessions. However, please be assured that my faith will always be at work along with other proven methods to help you achieve your counseling goals.
Education - I have a B.A. in Psychology and a Masters in Human Relations (MHR) from the University of Oklahoma.
Training/Certifications - I was certified as a trainer in Myers-Briggs Personality Assessment in 1985 and have used the assessment in every phase of my career for personal, couple, and team enrichment.
For couples, both married and pre-marital, I use biblically based principles from Love and Respect, the book and training series. I am also qualified at Level 1 in Gottman Method Couples Therapy; a dynamic, research based method to address couple’s issues.
I am an ordained minister and licensed in the State of Oklahoma.
