A native of Virginia, Executive Director Christy Rockwood, has been ministering to and working with people in crisis for over 20 years. She is a graduate of The College of William and Mary with a degree in Elementary Education. Christy has felt a pull toward walking along those in crisis from her days during and immediately following college, where she volunteered her time ministering to college students through Canterbury. Her continued desire to walk alongside those experiencing hurt or pain led her to complete Stephen’s Ministry training.
A move to Oklahoma in 2003 led Christy and her family to Journey Church in Norman. What followed was over a decade of service and employment that ultimately provided all-encompassing vocational and pastoral training. Christy was instrumental in training and organizing the needed volunteers during Disaster Relief following the May 20th Tornado. This experience eventually led to Christy working with Journey’s Care Pastor to create a training program to equip people for care ministry. Christy expanded her role with leadership in Women’s Ministry, weekly teaching the word to over 100 women, and eventually Pastor of Women’s Ministry. Christy provided oversight of Groups, Volunteers and provided leadership, pastoral counseling, coaching and spiritual direction for so many who crossed her path.
Christy deeply values true Southern Hospitality, the power of a warm smile and an encouraging word. She is a 2 on the Enneagram and loves the ocean. One of her greatest joys is when people she is working with see that there is life on the other side of their crisis. Through the finished work of the cross, people can live a life of joy and freedom in Christ.
